One of the most common questions asked when someone decides to take up guitar is "What size of guitar should I buy?"
Some guitars (acoustic, classical, electric) come in different sizes: full (4/4), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4.
Full size is the most common size and has the most choices to choose from.
3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 sizes are for kids.
All adults, regardless of their size, generally use full size guitars.
There are many different shapes of full size guitars, some of which can be more comfortable for smaller people (less that say 5ft 3in tall).
Folk size or Bowlback style acoustic or electro acoustic guitars are slightly more compact than Dreadnought size guitars in both depth and width, and allow a much easier stretch for the lower frets.
A St or Te style Electric guitar has a slimmer neck shape than an LP or SG type, which can make holding down chords easier.
Choosing the right size guitar to use depends the arm's reach of your child.
You can use age to determine the approximate guitar size for your child using the following chart.
